Historical Facebook

These fictitious facebook posts by historical figures are quite funny. You may want to think twice before sharing with your children though, not so much for the occasional language issues as the need for explanations. Oh, and don't miss the link to Part 2 at the end. LINK

A Brief History of Pretty Much Everything

This hand-drawn animation is a look at history with some humorous moments. I can't help but think that the creator, Displeased Eskimo, has watched quite a bit of Monty Python. LINK

One Year in 120 Seconds :: Eirik Solheim

This time-lapse video shows the passing of one full year out a window. Nice editing gives some emphasis to a summer thunder storm and winter snows. Watch for yourself. LINK

Klockwerks :: Roger Wood

Artisan Roger Wood creates whimsical clocks from found objects. There are styles that almost anyone would like and even better, there is an online studio tour! I love getting a glimpse into these types of spaces. LINK

Wood Clocks :: Clayton Boyer

Clayton Boyer creates clocks in a wide range of styles primarily from wood. I like that, no matter the artistic style, the gear works often add to the beauty. LINK

Exquisite Clock

This art project shows a whole slew of photos that see the numbers in everyday objects. Check out the online clock. LINK
Or see a video about the project on Vimeo. LINK

Space Craft :: Rik Allen

The spacecraft creations of Rik Allen are a "must see". Both the glass and metal elements of his sculptures are rich in colors and textures, and I love the humorous twists of a single chair element in the "cockpits" of many of his vehicles. See them all at his site! LINK

Glass :: Karen LaMonte

Artist Karen LaMonte has created a myriad of glass creations that focus on the draping of textile forms. See the dresses, busts, and bas-reliefs at her site. LINK

Sign Artist :: David Adrian Smith

Though he could also be described as a typographer and illustrator or a graphic designer, the signs created by artist David Adrian Smith also utilize glass and glass techniques. Danny Cooke has created a short documentary, giving us a window into Smith's world of detail and method which can be seen on Vimeo. LINK

You can also see some of his illustrative abilities in his website design and content. LINK

Incandescent Sculptures :: Dylan Kehde Roelofs

These glass creations are pretty amazing and include lamps, sculptural light bulbs, and art bottles. See them all at his site. LINK

Glass :: Andy Paiko

You can tell that Andy Paiko has been working with glass for a long time. He creates both traditional and modern pieces that include artistic sculptures, vases, bowls, and other functional pieces, and what he calls sculptural vesselware that combines both. See them all at his site. LINK

Glass Sculptures :: Melli-Ink

Though she also works in other mediums, Austrian-born artist Melli-Ink made it into the blog for her glass creations. See more at her site. LINK
Some other works can also be purchased as seen on artnet. LINK

Singing Glass :: Mika Aoki

Mika Aoki creates some interesting glass sculptures. Visit her site and see some examples in the listings in the Gallery section. LINK

Calvin and Hobbes Snowmen

Inspired by the brilliance of the Calvin and Hobbes snowmen comic strips, here is a collection of photos of some real-life recreations. LINK

Snow :: Tokujin Yoshioka

This is an exhibit I would have liked to have seen in person. Artist Tokujin Yoshioka created this snowscape using feathers! See more photos at his site. LINK

Natural Progressions :: Ryan Flett

Ryan Flett has created some beautiful cinematography using high- and low-speed filming techniques. This particular clip features British Columbia and speaks to the transition from fall to winter. LINK

Crashed Ice

Imagine the X-games meets winter. High-speed downhill skate racing! Not only are some of the courses out of control, some of the sites are amazingly beautiful. See photos and watch videos of past events. LINK

Star Wars Snowflakes

When my sister and I were kids, we cut a ton of small snowflakes to use as Christmas tree decorations so this project spoke to me. Click to see Boba Fett and Darth and get instructions and templates to create these Star Wars snowflakes yourself. LINK

The Cold Rush

Though the story line in this animation is a bit dark, the animation is really strong. Watch for yourself to see how far a bounty hunter is willing to go to bring in his man. LINK

Snowflake Generator :: Zefrank

It appears that online snowflake generators are just as seasonal as the real weather, melting off of the web shortly after they appear. But this one appears to be frozen here for a while now. Though not as complex as some others, the simple drag-and-drop tool will still create a cool geometric. LINK

Papierkrieg (Paper War) :: Makaio Tisu

You have to check out this fun short film/animation, a paper war between two children. Though it doesn't really need it, the translation is below. LINK

I Fly Like Paper :: Dawn NG

This installation of paper airplanes looks like it would be cool to have seen in person. See all the pictures at her site. LINK

Paper Plane :: Margherita Premuroso

This is a sweet little student animation about dreaming of flying. LINK

The Day Almost Flew By :: David Blue Garcia

This stop-action animation is pretty clever and a bit sweet. Watch to see what happens. LINK

Penguins in Heaven :: Federico Costa

A cute little video of penguins. LINK

Miracle on the Hudson Resurrected

This time-lapse video shows US Airways flight 1549 (the miracle on the Hudson) being resurrected from the icy waters. The ice on the water makes it particularly fascinating to watch, let alone the huge scale of the cranes. LINK
