Homeless in Japan

Found in Shinjuku, Japan, these cardboard structures used by the homeless were destroyed by fire in February 1998.
The cardboard house painters were Junichiro Take, who once spent 22 days in jail for performing his art in Shinjuku station, along with Takeo Yoshizaki, Yasuhiro Yamane, Itohisa Takano and others. Though in Japanese, it is worth it to scroll through all of the pages of this gallery as the styles and content of the house paintings vary greatly. Check out the full gallery. LINK

Food Carving :: Jim Victor

Jim Victor works in "any" medium, butter, cheese, chocolate. (He also does wood, plaster, bronze, etc.) But featured here, for the Thanksgiving holiday, are his food sculptures. I love the cow on the motorcycle but all of his pieces show amazing abilities and sense of humor.

Check out all of his work. LINK

Museum of Unusual Specimens

From the online Museum of Unusual Specimens, this "exhibit" can be found in Room 9. These creatures are all imaginary, made from resin and other materials.

Room 1 is devoted to beasts and dragons. Room 3 includes demons. Room 5 is reptilian, etc.

Though in Japanese, the creations are worth struggling through the navigation. Multiple links included here to help the process.

Street Art :: Banksy

Banksy is the most widely known graffiti artist in the world and has inspired many others with his stencil technique. Many of his pieces make political statements while others are just downright funny. In addition to checking out his own site, I'd recommend seeking out some of the news articles about his work. Some pretty wild stuff.

Although the picture shown is not as recognizable as some of his other work, it is one of my favorites.

And though his own site doesn't show all of his work, other examples can be found elsewhere online. A must click! LINK

Cut Paper :: Peter Callesen

Receiving an email of the art of Peter Callesen was actually the catalyst for starting the Creativity Email, was the first send, and subsequently, the blog that followed.

I love the rules he imposes upon himself and the results those rules produce. LINK
