Circuit-Board Shoes :: Gabriel Dishaw

Lots of artists recreate shoes but Gabriel Dishaw does it well. Check out all of his Nikes at his site. LINK

Circuit-Board Accessories

This series of photos is from a show of "wearable treasures" held in San Francisco back in 2008. From what I can tell, multiple artists contributed to the exhibit. See more at the flickr set. LINK

Folder Type :: Emilio Gomariz

Want to create an animation without any software? Emilio Gomariz has done just that by labelling his folders! I do wonder if the short length is because he maxed out the filing subcategories or if he got fed up. LINK

Analogical Tetris :: codeco

codeco is a collective that looks at the digital in real life. In this video, we see a demonstration of their real-life tetris game (which is for sale or rent if you can figure out what Spanish-speaking country they are in.) LINK

Peacocks :: Laurel Roth

Laurel Roth has created some amazing sculptures of peacocks. And believe it or not, they are made completely of cosmetic products. Fake fingernails, barrettes, false eyelashes, and jewelry are all put together to make these glittery sculptures. See all of the photos at her site. LINK

Bird :: Andrew Zuckerman

Photographer Andrew Zuckerman created a project focused on birds. To go along with a book of these aviators, he also put together a film. You can see some of the fabulous images he captured or watch the birds in motion at his site. LINK

Rock 'n' Roll Birds :: Céleste Bousier-Mougenot

Rather than pluck the birds, Céleste Bousier-Mougenot created this musical installation at the Barbican Art Exhibition earlier this year. where the birds do the plucking. See them play. LINK

Piu :: Pleix

This cute little animation is by a group of digital artists based in Paris who call themselves Pleix. I do recommend scrolling down before viewing the animation to hide of the horrible blinking masthead on their blog. LINK

Powerline Flyers :: Wes Johnson

Wes Johnson put together this simple video of birds taking advantage of some power lines. If you need a meditative moment in your day, this is for you. LINK

Urban Nest :: luzinterruptus

luzinterruptus is a light-art collective working in Spain. This installation in Madrid took advantage of the yellow safety balls installed on scaffolding and created these urban nests. See all of the pictures at their site and scroll down for the English text. LINK

Urban Play :: Sadmeister Inc.

Design firm Sagmeister Inc. participated in the Droog Event 2: Urban Play, a public art installation in Amsterdam. The eurocent coins spell out the sentence "Obsessions make my life worse and my work better." Read more about the project and watch the time-lapse video of the installation to learn how the project "disappeared". LINK

Money Jewelry :: Deanna Ooley

Diana Ooley creates jewelry using money. You can see more examples of her work at her site. LINK

How Your Money Works :: Musclebeaver

After watching this little animation, I'm afraid you'll never be able to think of your 401k the same again. The cutesy feel is a nice contrast to the message.  LINK

Hobo Nickel Society

Yes, this is a picture of a nickel, one that has been carved by Ray Cover. The term "hobo nickel" can refer to any carving of small denomination coins but the nickel is favored by carvers for it's thickness and relative softness. This artform goes way back into the 1700s but you can see what today's hobbyists are doing at the Hobo Nickel Society's site. LINK

Handmade Money :: Xavi García

Xavi García has created this handmade money as a reaction to digital design. He spent three months drawing it by hand and included security features such as watermarks, tactile elements, see-through images and invisible UV ink.

Check out all of the photos at his site. LINK

Nature by Numbers :: Cristóbal Vila

Digital illustrator and 3D animator Cristóbal Vila created a lovely animation that depicts the mathematical relationships found in nature. You can see Nature by Numbers and some of his other work at his site. LINK

Spheremetrical :: Impactist

Impactist, the creative duo of Kelly Meador and Daniel Elwing, have created an animation that tells it's story only using a few simple shapes. Though the ending is a bit cutesy for my tastes, the graphic style is very cool. LINK

Modular Orbs :: Richard Sweeney

Though he does work in other mediums, the modular orbs Richard Sweeney creates from paper have to be my favorites. Working in a variety of scales and even creating some functional pieces, his work is worth a gander. LINK

Organic Origami :: Goran Konjevod

I'm digging the origami by Goran Konjevod. See more of what he calls pleat tessellations at his site. LINK

Paper Sculptures :: Matt Shlian

His flip books having made previous appearances here on the blog, Matt Shlian is a master of the oxymoron in his paper sculptures, creating simple yet complex work at the same time. Combining cut and folded paper, many of his pieces are designed to move! Check out his site to see more pictures and videos. LINK

Cut Out Flipbook :: Matt Shlian

I'm always happy to find a flip book to share. This one is a complex shape but a nice simple graphic. Watch it in action. LINK

Complexity Graphics :: Tatiana Plakhova

Tatiana Plakhova creates some stunning digital graphics! On her Behance page are currently four different galleries, each just as fabulous as the next. Check out all of her floral concepts, folk complexities, flowers in chaos, and complexity graphics. LINK

Synchronous Objects

Wow! This site created by the Ohio State University's Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design delves into the study of choreography, taking it to a level I never before imagined! They've taken an art form and broken it down into data. And then they give you twenty different ways to view that data that are visually amazing! LINK

Pivot

This award-winning animated short brings new meaning to the term "shooter". A man witnesses a murder and has to run for his life. This low-polygon style film allows other graphic qualities like color and shading to take center stage with story telling remaining a key element. Watch this fast-paced adventure with a twist ending for yourself. Even better to watch in full screen! LINK

Or learn a bit more about the project by visiting the movie site. LINK

Dancers Among Us :: Jordan Matter

Photographer Jordan Matter created the project Dancers Among Us which takes dancers off of the stage and puts them into everyday life. See the gallery at his site. LINK

En Tus Bravos

This little animated movie about a dancing couple is beautifully done. Slow to load even with a high-speed connection, it's worth the wait. You can choose the English version with subtitles though nothing is lost if you watch in the original French. LINK

The Ugly Dance :: Fulkultur

For those of you just looking for some fun today, the Swedish band Fulkultur put together this little website to promote their song. You can upload your own photo or just play around with the original. LINK

My Paper Mind :: Javan Ivey

Artist Javan Ivey has created a technique he calls "Stratastencil" to create this unique animation. And it is fabulous and beautiful! Watch the full video and see some photos of his set up at his site. LINK

Convergence Flipbook :: Matt Shlian

I do wonder if the intricate cut paper work by Matt Shlian is really showcased all that well in this flipbook, but its still worth the seventeen seconds. LINK

Realistic Paper Sculpture :: Allen and Patty Eckman

Primarily creating works themed around the old west, cowboys and indians, Allen and Patty Eckman create paper sculptures that are amazingly realistic. They've trademarked their method which they will happily teach you by selling you Patty's Flowers kit. Check out their work in the Works section of their site. LINK

Cut Ups :: Sarah Bridgland

Sarah Bridgland's work is unlike anything I've seen before. I particularly like the pieces she has created that use vintage materials. I wish she had more but you can see her work at her site. LINK

Paper People :: People Too

People Too is made up of two Russian artists, Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich, who create diorama-style pieces that could easily be used for editorial or advertising. They do a great job of creating colorful set ups with plenty of style. Check out their work at their Behance Network page. LINK

Anna-Wili Highfield

Sydney-based artist Anna-Wili Highfield creates paper sculptures unlike any others I have seen before. The roughness of her pieces really makes them stand out. See her site for marvelous birds, lots of owls, horses and even a cow! LINK
