Scary Girl :: Nathan Jurevicius

Artist Nathan Jurecicius works as a professional illustrator but has also created the world of Scary Girl. It began with collectible toys before being developed into one of the best Flash games ever created, followed by a graphic novel. Full of odd creatures and landscapes, the illustrations make this great for adults too.

Even if you choose not to play, the intro sequence to the game is worth checking out! The first two levels are pretty easy with higher levels becoming more challenging. Playing in full-screen mode helps a ton. The game itself was developed by TouchMyPixel.

Go to the Scary Girl site to see it all! LINK

TiM :: Ken Turner

This stop-action animated film tells the story of a little boy who wants to be Tim Burton when he grows up! Very cute. LINK

Skeleton Bar :: HRGiger

H.R. Giger may be best known for his film work, most notably his work on the Alien movie. But he has also created a number of themed spaces throughout his career including this skeletal bar in Switzerland.

Check out all of his fantastical creations or go directly to the Giger Bar links to see more photos of this space. LINK

Luis and Lucia

These two stop-action animations are amazing and disturbing. Each are filmed in a single room and use both the items in the room and the walls as a canvas to tell their stories. Unlike other graffiti-style animations, these artists really work the stop-action medium, incorporating different camera angles and zoom. The second, Luis is even more impressive that it was done in reverse! Creators are Cristóbal León, Joaquín Cociña & Niles Atallah

Watch them both and read a little about them. LINK

Loopy Boopy Art Dolls :: Colleen Downs

These dolls are totally creepy but I can't help but appreciate that they are completely different from anything that I've seen before. Colleen Downs has devoted an entire blog about her creations where you can see a ton of examples of her work. LINK

Skull Gallery :: Jim

Here is a fresh look at skulls by an artist who goes by his first name only, Jim. He makes these from rope and twine and their "beards" come in all shapes and sizes. Check them all out at his site. LINK

Ghosts in the Hollow :: Jim Lo Scalzo

Jim Lo Scalzo created this haunting video documenting the abandoned coal towns of Appalachia. LINK

Stop the Violence :: Francois Robert

Photographer Francois Robert has created a series that calls attention to the effects of violence. See all of the photos at his site. LINK

Seaquence

Wow! What a cool little interactive. It puts other music generators to shame. Not only can you make music, you can also watch is swim around or even drag you musical creations out of the picture! Make something that sounds good, looks good, or both! Everyone has to at least try this once, and check out some of the creations others have shared. LINK

Zune :: Tokyoplastic

I normally avoid sharing ads here on the blog, but this one is all about the animation. LINK

Percusives :: Charles Clary

These three-dimensional cut paper sculptures are pretty cool. In some, I enjoy the colors, others the shapes. Check out his blog portfolio to see more including some with illustrated elements. LINK

Oxygen :: Christopher Hendryx

This thesis project in computer animation takes a humorous look at the element oxygen as it plays with some of the other elements. LINK

Contamination :: Tamsin van Essen

Artist Tamsin van Essen has created two series of ceramics that caught my attention.

Contamination introduces various "foreign" materials to the pieces allowing the firing process to create an uncontrolled result. Staphylococcus is shown here. LINK

Medical Heirlooms explores diseases such as acne, osteoporosis, and psoriasis, taking advantage of some of the effects that happen during the firing process. LINK

Homunculus

I'm not even sure how to describe this animation. Food rots, mold comes alive and attacks. You'll have to watch for yourself. LINK

Carved Bicycle Seats :: Kara Ginther

Kara Ginther carves some beautiful bicycle seats. I can't imagine actually using some of these. See them all at her site. LINK

Carved Bats :: Peter Schuyff

In the Dutch Baseball of Peter Schuyff's website, you can find various photos of his carved baseball bats. He also works in large and small scales. LINK

Tarp Surfing

What do you get when you combine skateboards and a really big tarp? Tarp surfing! I imagine that it is actually more difficult than they make it look. Watch for yourself! LINK

Fishing Lures :: Tedd McDonah

Ted McDonah creates some really cool art fishing lures while recycling at the same time. And you can buy them at his Etsy shop. LINK

Woodwalk :: Paul Coudamy

Paul Coudamy created this 25-pair limited edition of wooden K-Swiss sneakers. They are actually hand carved and pay tribute to the Swiss wooden shoes of the 19th century. At his site, choose Design, then Woodwalk 2008. LINK
