This advertisement for moleskin was obviously inspired by some of the great stop-action animations created with books. Though I think I prefer the creative versions over the commercial, this is still pretty cool and appropriate for their product. LINK

Hoedown from Rodeo :: Eleanor Stewart

This stop-action animation was created by Eleanor Stewart for a final project while she was in school. Though I've seen similar productions, I've got to give some credit to anyone who will put in this sort of effort, especially done solo. LINK

Amos Lee - Flower

Any time I see a cut-paper animation, I'm astounding by how much work must have gone into creating it. This one seems to be a combination of some different mediums though primarily paper and a mix of stop action and digital animation, though lately, it's getting harder and harder to tell where the line is drawn between the two. Paperthin Music Video

Lots of colorful cut paper and illustrations went into making this animation set in a paper world, a music video for a Pete Lawrie song. LINK

Here's another good stop-action story from LEGO, this time about a brick thief. LINK

Skateboardanimation :: Tilman Singer

Though the animation is rough, I have to appreciate the amount of effort put in and cleverness of combining photographic prints with other everyday objects to create this at-home skateboard animation. Watch for yourself. LINK

Neomorphus :: Animatorio

I'm not sure how to describe this stop-motion animation other than odd. Of course, I get distracted by good animation so I had to watch it twice before I completely picked up on the mutations and ironic ending. Watch for yourself on vimeo. LINK

Todor & Petru

This is easily one of the most interesting animations I've seen in the past couple years. A combination of stop-action and 2D animation, this piece pits red vs. yellow in an urban battle. The unique quality of the visuals alone makes it worth the watch. LINK

Screwed Up :: Kris Hofmann

This stop-action animation is a love story, including the initial elation, a breakup, a sense of loss, and search for new love. It's kind of cute. LINK

Sunny Side Up :: Rocket Science Animation

Sunny Side Up is a cute stop-action animation about an egg who is yellow when it comes to flying. LINK

The Deep :: PES

Every time I turn around, I'm posting another stop-action animation from PES, this time found-object sea creatures. I'd like to say my favorite detail was ___ but there are too many little touches that are worth seeing in this animation. LINK

Ants in My Scanner :: François Vautier

When his old scanner was no longer needed, François Vautier set up an ant colony inside of it and scanned it each week ... for five years! The resulting time-lapse video is pretty amazing as parts corrode and rust and plants grow! LINK

Cameraman's Revenge :: Ladislaw Starewicz

Just when we think we've stumbled upon or created some unique or original art form, a relic from the past reappears and reminds us that other's have come before us.

This Russian stop-action animation using insects as the main characters was created in 1912!

Even the subject matter reminds us that we're not so modern ... a couple and their extramarital dalliances. When you consider how delicate insects can be, the amount of attention paid to the gestures of the "actors" is truly amazing. LINK

Benjamin Ducroz has several stop-motion animations available to view on his site. But all incorporate geometric shapes. Sometimes he works with computer-generated drawings that are then photographed. Others times he uses sculptural forms. All are worth a watch. LINK

Streets Against the War :: Sokak Savasakarsi

Made in Turkey, this stop-action animation is completely unexpected, both in form and message. Watch until the end to get the full idea. The really good stuff starts around 1 minute in. LINK

The Day Almost Flew By :: David Blue Garcia

This stop-action animation is pretty clever and a bit sweet. Watch to see what happens. LINK

T-Shirt Wars :: Rhett and Link

Rhett and link collaborated with Joe Penna and Billy Reid to create this really clever stop-action animation, two guys using their t-shirts to battle it out. LINK
