Singing Christmas Hedgehogs

Though I chose a couple different options in this "choose your story" animation, I still didn't get a singing hedgehog. But the alternates were cute and humorous. Watch for yourself. LINK

MTV 2011

This is probably one of the most clever ways I've ever seen of producing an animation, drawing on balloons then popping them in sequence! An advertisement for MTV Brasil,  I do wish more information were available on the team that actually created it. Watch for yourself. LINK

V Water :: Jenn and Sara

This fun animation incorporates the animator as a character, making an impact on the hand-drawn character's progress through the day. Short and originally created as a viral video to advertise v water, it is a pleasant little diversion. LINK

Galileo :: Ghislain Avrillon

Galileo is a sweet illustrated animation taking place in a floating world. LINK

Catwalk - Black Cat Crossing

The style of this animation is wonderful! Hand-drawn elements were scanned and then manipulated digitally. Beautifully done and a quirky storyline as well. LINK

Play :: Dustball

There is something about simple forms and concepts that is intriguing. Sharp contrast, clear concept, and movement synced to sharp rhythm makes this short animation worth a view. LINK

Runaway :: Aubry Longley-Cook

Aubry Longley-Cook is responsible for this creation, an animated embroidery. Click over to his blog to see it in motion. LINK

A Brief History of Pretty Much Everything

This hand-drawn animation is a look at history with some humorous moments. I can't help but think that the creator, Displeased Eskimo, has watched quite a bit of Monty Python. LINK

Pure Performance :: Subaru

The way this animated Subaru promotion was created is really creative. Watch the video to see how it's done. LINK

Luis and Lucia

These two stop-action animations are amazing and disturbing. Each are filmed in a single room and use both the items in the room and the walls as a canvas to tell their stories. Unlike other graffiti-style animations, these artists really work the stop-action medium, incorporating different camera angles and zoom. The second, Luis is even more impressive that it was done in reverse! Creators are Cristóbal León, Joaquín Cociña & Niles Atallah

Watch them both and read a little about them. LINK

The Tale of How

I'm sure many of us have seen the commercial for United Airline that features the Sea Orchestra. But you should also check out the Tale of How created by many of the same players. Less commercial but no less artistic. LINK

Or watch the commercial again. LINK

Khoda :: Reza Dolatabadi

This animation is actually the compilation of over 6,000 individual paintings. Yep, paintings! LINK

Paper Parkour :: Serene Teh

It would appear from the dates of the original video postings that this creation was inspired by the VideoGioco illustration video previously posted here. But still a cool little piece putting together Parkour illustrations. LINK

The Forest :: David Scharf

Neat illustration style in this animation by David Scharf. Not a happy story but interesting imagery. LINK

VIDEOGIOCO :: Donato Sansone

This guy has done a great job of rethinking stop-action animation. Though I'm not all that fond of the content of his animation, I can definitely appreciate the process. LINK

Low Morale :: Monkeehub

An oldy but a goody, I'm sure we can all relate to these commentaries on office life. When you go to the site, make sure to click the previous and next buttons to see other clips. At the time of this posting there were about thirteen of them. I think my favorite is the Rube Goldberg. LINK

Insanely Twisted :: Michel Gangé

The creator of these little monsters is a guy named Michael Gangé though he worked with others to animate them. In addition to the monsters and games, he's also done a couple comics/graphic novels.

You can check out a bunch of short animated monster clips at the Insanely Twisted site. LINK

Or see the preview for a game based on his creations (still in production at the time of this posting). LINK

Gnaritas Monstrum :: Seth Kendall

This animation won a whole bunch of awards back in 2007. It's a graduate film by Seth Kendall done while he was at Drexel University. LINK
