Machines :: Chris Eckert
I do find it interesting when religion influences art. Many of Chris Eckert's beautifully-crafted custom machines have religious undertones, such as the Auto Rosary, a machine to do the praying for you, or the Auto Ink which will give you a randomly-assigned religious-symbol tattoo! Art objects in themselves, you can also read Chris's explanations of the thinking and inspiration behind the machines at his site. LINK
LEGO GBC 20 Modules
Oh. My. Goodness. This LEGO contraption is completely out of control. Balls roll, fill, slide, and get moved around the largest, most complex LEGO contraption I've ever seen. It just keeps going and going! This puts the little gravity-driven machines my sister and I made as kids completely to shame! LINK
Valsa das Máquinas, Paramount Têxteis :: Grafikonstruct
This film of textile manufacturing is beautiful. The attention paid to synching the motion of the machinery to the music is fabulous and well worth the minute-and-a-half viewing. LINK
Automatons :: Kazu Harada
Artist Kazu Harada has created a whole slew of automaton sculptures, a simple crank of the wheel and they reveal another side of the sculpture. From cute teddy bears to more complex contraptions, many are clever, some quaint. See a whole gallery of them with links to videos of them in action.LINK
Drawing Machine :: Eske Rex
When I see some of the insanely repetitive drawing pieces some people create by hand, I appreciate this machine, which uses a pendulum effect to do the work for you. Visit Eske Rex's website to see lots of photos that give this creation a sense of scale. (It's huge.) LINK

ShapeShifter
This animation is visually stunning. Fast moving and exciting, it is definitely worth a viewing. LINK
Car Sculptures :: Brian Mock
Sculptor Brian Mock creates a wide variety of works, primarily in metal, but is being featured here today for his autos. You can tell he has a lot of fun creating these. LINK
Dirty Car Art :: Scott Wade
Living on a dirt road that throws up a fine dust, coating the rear windows of vehicles, gave Scott Wade a ready-made canvas. Check out the gallery of dirty car art that ensues when a creative personality and a bit of grime meet. LINK
Vector Portraits :: Andrew Bush
This goes waaaaay back, one of the first "creative" projects I discovered once art blogs began proliferating the internet. Photographer Andrew Bush has a series of photos made while traveling 50 to 70 mph in Los Angeles and other parts of the Southwestern United States. Not only are the vehicles and their drivers interesting, the odd croppings and captured expressions add greatly to this photo journey. See them all at his site. LINK
Isle of Tune
Though I only played around with this game for a few minutes, if you have the time and the patience, it is possible to put together some pretty complex layered musical creations ... by how you plan your suburban layout. As cars pass by buildings, lamp posts, and planters and trees, notes and tones are played. Check it out for yourself. LINK
Crystal Hubcaps :: Andy Yoder
I suppose I believe that the question "Is it art?" can be answered by determining if it is unique and makes you ponder on an objects aesthetic qualities. Any Yoder succeeded in creating objects that are unexpected and, in their own way, beautiful by creating hubcaps in crystal. See them all at the Winkleman Gallery website. LINK
Or visit Andy Yoder's personal site to see some of his other works, though the hubcaps aren't included at the time of this posting. LINK

Liquid Photography :: Sinichi Maruyama
Previously featured photographer Sinichi Maruyama has a new series of liquid photography titled Gardens that is equally, if not more, impressive. He has added the element of color in these pieces that are all amazing. See them all, along with some process photos that give away how it is done at his site. LINK
The Speaker Orchestra
This advertisement utilizing liquid to showcase speaker vibrations may not be unique, but is well done. I'm glad I don't have to clean up after. LINK
Warm Signal :: Silja
This student animation project is interesting, primarily black and white and making use of shape and form to represent sea creatures. LINK

Italian artist Alberto Seveso offers some nice liquid and ink photography as wallpapers. You can see and download them at his site. LINK
Bubbles :: Suckaface
Flickr user Suckaface has a whole slew of bubble photos, floating, filled with smoke, popping ... but my favorites have to be the frozen ones, scattered in amongst the rest. LINK
Compressed 01 :: Kim Pimmel
Kim Pimmel created this video using ferrous printer toner particles floating on the surface of water, attracted by a magnet. I love when science and creativity collide. LINK

Sculpture :: Cal Lane
Cal Lane creates all sorts of projects that incorporate decorative patterns into unexpected objects. I think my favorites are her shovels and wheelbarrows from 2007 but there are also some interesting pieces working with car doors. See more of her work at her site. LINK
Haitian Aid Inforgraphic
This infographic is a bit out of date now, created not long after the Haitian earthquake. However, the design is wonderfully unique and so much better than pie charts! See the full-size image over at the GOOD site. LINK
Dots and Swirls :: Carter Hodgkin
Sculpture and Drawings :: Michael Kukla
Artist Michael Kukla has a unifying theme in his work, layers of overlapping circular shapes. His portfolio includes works on paper, paintings, and sculptures in marble and wood. See more at his site. LINK
