Pattern Matters :: Lim Siang Ching

I'm digging the 3D paper sculptures created by Lim Siang Ching as part of the Pattern Matters project. And especially fitting tonight are the series of calendar posters. Check out all of the months and some other works over at the Pattern Matters site. LINK

Le Creative Sweatshop

Le Creative Sweatshop makes visuals of all sorts but I'm particularly fond of the majority of their work which is paper sculptures. It looks as if they primarily do display work but their website no longer shows images unless you roll over the text so it's hard to tell. (I do wonder whose bright idea is was to represent visual creations in text only but it's still worth checking out.) LINK

The Makerie Studio

The Makerie Studio creates some splendid sculptures, many utilizing primarily paper. Check out more of their work on their Behance site. LINK

The End of Gravity :: Jacob Hashimoto

Another mixed media series utilizing rice paper, I can imagine just staring at these pieces for hours on end and seeing something new in them every time. I particularly like the wall pieces with layers suspended on strings called The End of Gravity shown at the Mary Boone Gallery. See more at the artist's site. LINK

Rice Paper Sculptures :: Kirsten Hassenfeld

Amos Lee - Flower

Any time I see a cut-paper animation, I'm astounding by how much work must have gone into creating it. This one seems to be a combination of some different mediums though primarily paper and a mix of stop action and digital animation, though lately, it's getting harder and harder to tell where the line is drawn between the two. LINK

Scored Illustrations :: Simon Schubert

Simon Schubert has quite a few works in folded and scored paper, mostly architectural and geometric pieces. They first started making the rounds on the internet a few years ago, but if you haven't seen them in a while, they are worth checking out again. LINK

Lots of colorful cut paper and illustrations went into making this animation set in a paper world, a music video for a Pete Lawrie song. LINK

An audio-visual collective that calls themselves Origamibiro put together this musical and video item that creates music from everyday objects, including a typewriter. A fun watch. LINK

Samurai Wars :: Sillof

From the same guy who gave us steampunk Star Wars, comes the Samurai Wars, imagining the cast transplanted to a time long ago, in a country in the middle of the Pacific? Quite a hobby for a high school teacher! LINK

MTV 2011

This is probably one of the most clever ways I've ever seen of producing an animation, drawing on balloons then popping them in sequence! An advertisement for MTV Brasil,  I do wish more information were available on the team that actually created it. Watch for yourself. LINK

Life Through a Marble :: Cabe26

This series of photographs by flickr user Cabe26 is pretty awesome, closeups of the world as seen through the distortions of a marble. Beautiful. LINK

Metropolis II :: Chris Burden

Chris Burden created Metropolis II, a toy-car track that is dumbfounding in its scale. This is no living-room hot wheels track by any means. Though there are some other videos of it on YouTube, I like this "movie" version. (See credits in the text along with the video.) LINK

Kurzschluss

This well-done animation tells the story of a robot who sets off to the distributor in search of more beverages only to find love instead. LINK

Here's another good stop-action story from LEGO, this time about a brick thief. LINK

Pixar. Xoetropes. What a wonderful combination! See the guys from Toy Story in action. LINK

Slinky Light Fixture

Though these used to be for sale, it doesn't seem as if this slinky lamp would be too difficult to make on your own. LINK

Here us a link to a different style with instructions. LINK
